Four Nights in Yachats, Oregon: Where to Eat, Explore & Unwind

I've spent plenty of time on the Oregon Coast over the years, but somehow, until this trip, I'd never explored Yachats. And now? I fear I've found my new favorite little coastal town!! :)

Tucked along Highway 101 between Newport and Florence, Yachats (pronounced YAH-hots) is one of those places that feels like it's encouraging you to slow down. Think dramatic rocky shorelines, adorable little businesses, ridiculously good seafood, and the kind of ocean views that make you forget to check your phone.

During our September family road trip, Jared, my parents, and I spent four nights calling Yachats our home base. We explored trails and scenic overlooks, ate our way through town, wandered into local shops, and spent one particularly perfect afternoon doing absolutely nothing but reading on the beach!

And while we squeezed in plenty of adventures, my favorite thing about Yachats was how easy it made doing less feel like doing exactly enough.

If you're planning a trip to Yachats, Oregon, here are the restaurants, attractions, and little discoveries that made us fall completely in love with this beautiful stretch of coastline.

Why Visit Yachats, Oregon?

If your ideal vacation includes a little adventure, a little indulgence, and plenty of opportunities to simply enjoy where you are, Yachats might be your kind of place.

Unlike some of the busier Oregon Coast destinations, Yachats feels wonderfully intimate. Its compact downtown is filled with independent restaurants, shops, and cafes, while some of the most spectacular coastal scenery is practically around the corner.

We especially loved that it worked for everyone in our family. My parents were excited to explore the natural wonders of the area, while Jared and I were equally enthusiastic about finding our next delicious meal and settling in with our books.

Some days we packed in sightseeing. Others, we let the weather and our appetites make the decisions. Both approaches were equally wonderful.

The Best Things to Do in Yachats, Oregon

Walk the Beautiful 804 Trail

If you only have time for one coastal walk in Yachats, I'd put the 804 Trail near the top of your list.

We explored it on our first morning in town, and it was one of those experiences that immediately made me realize we'd chosen somewhere special.

The trail follows the rugged shoreline, with incredible views of waves crashing against dark volcanic rock. There are fascinating little pockets and channels where the ocean rushes in, wildflowers growing along the way, and so many places where you'll want to stop and take photos.

It's the kind of walk where you could spend just a little time or linger much longer, depending on how often you stop to admire the scenery. And trust me, you'll want to stop often!

Definitely wear comfortable shoes and keep a safe distance from the ocean, especially near exposed rocks. Oregon Coast waves can be unpredictable, and it's much better to admire those dramatic splashes from a safe spot.

Take in the Views at Cape Perpetua

For a completely different perspective of the coastline, head to the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area.

We drove up to the overlook, climbing high enough that my ears actually popped along the way. And the views at the top? Absolutely breathtaking.

From above, the coastline stretches out in both directions, with forested hills meeting the Pacific Ocean in the most spectacular way. :)

It's one of those places where photos simply don't capture how enormous and beautiful everything feels in person.

If you're exploring the area by car, I'd absolutely make time for this stop. Just check current road and weather conditions before heading up, especially during the wetter months.

Explore Devil's Churn

Another nearby natural attraction worth visiting is Devil's Churn, a narrow coastal inlet where waves can surge dramatically between the rocks.

During our visit, the ocean was actually pretty calm, so we didn't get the full dramatic performance you sometimes see in photos and videos.

But honestly? It was still gorgeous. It was a lovely place to explore, even without enormous waves crashing through the channel.

This is another area where you'll want to respect safety signs and avoid getting too close to the water. Calm-looking conditions can change quickly.

Spend an Entire Afternoon Reading on the Beach

I know, I know. You don't need a ~“travel content creator”~ to tell you that you can go to the beach while visiting the coast! But hear me out.

One of my absolute favorite memories from our entire trip was an afternoon Jared and I spent doing practically nothing.

We packed up our books, gathered a charcuterie picnic for lunch, found a sunny spot on the sand, and settled in for hours of reading, chatting, eating cheese, and watching the waves.

My mom even joined us for the last bit of the afternoon!

We happened to visit during a stretch of unusually beautiful September weather, with sunshine and comfortable temperatures that made spending hours outside an absolute dream.

It wasn't a particularly exciting day on paper. There was no elaborate itinerary or major attraction to check off a list. But it was perfection!

If you're planning on spending several nights in Yachats, leave at least one afternoon completely unplanned. Bring a book, some snacks, and a warm layer in case the coastal breeze picks up.

Wander Through the Shops in Downtown Yachats

One of my favorite things to do in a small coastal town is simply wander.

Yachats has a lovely collection of independent businesses, and we had so much fun exploring the little shops, browsing books, and finding souvenirs to bring home.

We also stopped by the local visitor center, where the staff were incredibly sweet and helpful. Naturally I couldn't leave without collecting a few postcards and stickers for my junk journal. If you're a fellow stationery or souvenir collector, you get me! ;)

One thing we learned during our visit, though, is that some local businesses have limited weekday hours or close on certain days entirely. We found that our best opportunity for browsing was on a Monday, while other days were surprisingly quiet.

So if there's a particular shop, restaurant, or cafe you're excited about, check its current hours before planning your day around it! It's a small detail that can make a big difference, especially if you're visiting Yachats during the week.

Where to Eat in Yachats, Oregon

Now for one of my favorite parts of this entire trip: THE FOOD.

I went into our Oregon Coast vacation hoping for some great seafood and cozy little restaurants.

Yachats absolutely exceeded my expectations. In fact, one restaurant was so good that we went back twice before leaving town!

Ona Restaurant: Our Favorite Seafood of the Trip

Let's start with the star of the show! Ona Restaurant was, without question, our favorite seafood experience of the trip. It might even rank among some of the best seafood we've ever had.

We loved our first visit so much that we returned for another dinner, this time with my parents.

On our first evening, we enjoyed sourdough bread served with a delicious pesto spread and some truly phenomenal crab cakes. Jared ordered the meatloaf, which was also a hit.

When we returned, my mom and I shared the crab cakes and fish and chips, and somehow everything was just as wonderful the second time.

There was also a beet salad that managed to impress me despite the fact that I am very much not a beet person. That alone should tell you something!

The atmosphere felt fancy enough for a romantic dinner without being pretentious, and the food was the kind you find yourself talking about long after vacation ends. If you're planning a trip to Yachats and can only choose one restaurant for a special dinner, Ona would be my pick. And yes, I'd absolutely order the crab cakes.

The Drift Inn: Cozy, Eclectic & Delicious

Our first dinner in Yachats was at The Drift Inn, and it was such a fun introduction to the town.

The restaurant has an eclectic, welcoming atmosphere with all sorts of quirky details. Our table, for example, was built around an actual bicycle frame and wheels, topped with wood. How cute is that?!

We shared a charcuterie board and salad, and I ordered roasted butternut squash ravioli with gorgonzola, amaretto brown butter, crispy sage, hazelnuts, dried cranberries, and parmesan. I still think about that pasta. It was rich, cozy, slightly sweet, and exactly what I wanted after a day of traveling.

If you love restaurants with personality and comforting food, The Drift Inn is a wonderful place to start your Yachats dining adventures.

Green Salmon Coffee Company: A Must for Breakfast

Make some time for Green Salmon Coffee Company! This charming cafe was one of our favorite breakfast stops, and it had such a fun, creative menu.

We enjoyed a breakfast burrito featuring sweet potato and an omelet inspired by Steve Martin’s character in Only Murders in the Building, which immediately earned bonus points from me.

But the real star? The banana cream pie smoothie! Made with banana, coconut milk, oat milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and whipped cream, it tasted more like a decadent milkshake than a smoothie. And I mean that as the highest possible compliment. If it's available when you visit, please order one on my behalf. ;)

Adobe Resort: Ocean Views & an Elevated Dinner

For a dinner with beautiful ocean views, we also enjoyed the restaurant at Adobe Resort.

While the resort itself has more of a traditional coastal hotel feel, the dining experience felt like a lovely opportunity to dress up a little and enjoy a special evening.

We started with hummus and pita, along with a gorgonzola salad. For our entrées, I ordered salmon with a delicious glaze, while Jared went with the smoked tri-tip stroganoff.

What's particularly funny is that Jared isn't usually a mushroom fan, but he still really enjoyed his meal.

We both left happy, full, and very pleased with our dinner choices! If you're looking for a more polished dining experience with the Pacific Ocean as your backdrop, Adobe is worth considering.

WildCraft Cider & Pantry: A Relaxed Stop for Drinks & Snacks

Another lovely discovery was WildCraft Cider & Pantry.

Jared enjoyed a cider flight while I opted for a housemade nonalcoholic soda, and we shared a charcuterie board.

The staff were incredibly friendly, and the whole experience felt easygoing and welcoming.

It's a nice option when you're not necessarily looking for a full sit-down meal but want somewhere to relax, enjoy a drink, and snack on something delicious.

As with other small-town businesses, I'd recommend confirming current hours before stopping by.

Easy Scenic Excursions Near Yachats

One of the things that makes Yachats such a great home base is its location along Highway 101. You can spend your days exploring the immediate area, or venture a little farther to discover some truly beautiful places along the central Oregon Coast.

Heceta Head Lighthouse

South of Yachats, Heceta Head Lighthouse makes a wonderful scenic stop.

Our visit was much foggier and windier than the rest of our trip, which honestly gave the whole experience a wonderfully moody coastal atmosphere.

Reaching the lighthouse involves an uphill walk, so be prepared for a little cardio.

But the scenery is beautiful, and there's something magical about seeing a historic lighthouse perched above the Pacific Ocean.

We also enjoyed browsing the little gift shop before continuing our adventure.

You’ll want to bring a jacket, even if the weather looks beautiful when you leave Yachats. Conditions can feel completely different along this stretch of coastline.

Darlingtonia State Natural Site

If you enjoy unusual nature stops, consider continuing south toward Darlingtonia State Natural Site, near Florence.

This small natural area is home to Darlingtonia californica, also known as cobra lilies. And yes, they're carnivorous plants.

The plants have distinctive hooded shapes that resemble cobras, and they trap insects as part of their survival strategy.

My dad was particularly excited about this stop and couldn’t wait to show Jared and I, and I'm so glad we made time for it.

It's a wonderfully quirky little addition to a coastal road trip, especially if you're already heading toward Florence!

Is Four Nights in Yachats Too Long?

Not even a little. In fact, four nights felt like a wonderful amount of time for the kind of trip we wanted.

We had enough flexibility to enjoy beautiful weather, explore scenic attractions, try several restaurants, visit neighboring communities, and still have an entire afternoon left with nothing planned.

If you're someone who likes a packed itinerary, you could certainly experience many of Yachats' highlights in a shorter visit. But if you're hoping to truly unwind, I'd recommend staying at least a few nights.

There's something special about having enough time to revisit a favorite restaurant, take a spontaneous walk, or decide that today's biggest accomplishment will be finishing a chapter of your book!

Tips for Planning Your Yachats Getaway

Before you pack your bags, here are a few things I'd keep in mind:

  • Check business hours ahead of time. Some local shops and restaurants operate on limited schedules, particularly during the week.

  • Bring layers. Even during a sunny September visit, the Oregon Coast can be breezy, foggy, and surprisingly cool.

  • Wear comfortable walking shoes. Coastal paths, rocky viewpoints, and lighthouse walks are much more enjoyable when you're dressed for them.

  • Plan around the weather, but stay flexible. A sunny afternoon might be perfect for reading on the beach, while a foggy morning can make a lighthouse visit feel especially atmospheric.

  • Practice coastal safety. Stay back from exposed rocks and watch for unpredictable waves, especially around the 804 Trail, Devil's Churn, and other rugged shoreline areas.

  • Don't overpack your itinerary. One of the best things about Yachats is how wonderful it feels to slow down.

Final Thoughts: A Little Love Letter to Yachats

I've been visiting the Oregon Coast since I was little, and there are places along this beautiful stretch of the Pacific Northwest that will always feel like home. But discovering Yachats reminded me that there's still so much coastline left to fall in love with.

It wasn't just the spectacular views or the wonderful restaurants, although both certainly helped. It was the feeling of having nowhere particularly important to be. The quiet mornings, the spontaneous stops, the afternoons spent reading, and the evenings gathered around a table with the people I love the most.

Sometimes the best vacations aren't the ones where you see and do absolutely everything. Sometimes they're the ones where you finally give yourself permission to slow down. And Yachats? I think you've officially ruined all other coastal getaways for me!! Until next time. :)
