Visiting Coupeville, Washington - The Town of Practical Magic
If you're a fan of all things witchy and whimsical, Coupeville is the perfect fall getaway! This picturesque town on Whidbey Island served as the enchanting backdrop for the movie Practical Magic. My friend Tatiana and I hopped on the ferry and spent the day exploring its magical charm.
Visiting Coupeville, Washington
We started at the Island County Historical Museum, where you can dive into the rich history of this waterfront town. Then, we wandered through local shops, including some that nod to their connection to the movie. One highlight? Dining at a cozy Mexican restaurant in the building that served as the Owens sisters' Verbena Botanicals shop in the movie.
Every fall, Coupeville embraces its magical legacy with Halloween events, including a torchlight parade and costume contests. For even more fun, you can enjoy a Practical Magic-themed weekend featuring movie screenings, trivia, and even Midnight Margaritas! If you're here in December, don't miss the holiday parade and tree-lighting festivities—it’s truly a small-town holiday dream.
Fun fact: While the Owens’ iconic Victorian house wasn’t real, many other scenes were filmed throughout Coupeville. Toby’s Tavern, for example, was the location for the sisters’ margarita-making scene. Walking through town, you might just feel like you’ve stepped onto the movie set!
Plan your visit to soak up the town's charm, shop for unique finds, and maybe even channel a little magic of your own!
