48 Hours in Bellingham, Washington (Summer 2025)

This summer, Jared and I packed up the car and headed north for a weekend in one of Washington's most charming coastal cities: Bellingham! Joined by my parents and our longtime family friends, we spent two+ days soaking up waterfront views, wandering Fairhaven, enjoying some seriously memorable meals, and even making a little detour toward the Canadian border. Between cozy cafés, incredible pizza, and one of the most beautiful beaches in the state, this trip reminded me why Bellingham is always worth the drive!

If you're planning your own getaway, here's how we spent 48 Hours in Bellingham, Washington!

48 Hours in Bellingham, Washington

Clayton Beach

Our first stop was easily one of the highlights of the weekend: Clayton Beach. Nestled within Larrabee State Park, the trail winds through towering evergreens before opening up to driftwood-covered shores and stunning views of Chuckanut Bay. It's peaceful, scenic, and absolutely worth the short hike down. If you're visiting Bellingham for the first time, I'd put this at the very top of your itinerary.

Bellingham Farmers Market

Nothing says Saturday morning quite like a bustling farmers market. We wandered through rows of local produce, fresh flowers, handmade goods, and food vendors while soaking up the community atmosphere. Even if you don't leave with much, it's a fun way to experience a little slice of Bellingham life.

Lunch @ Tam Tam Pizza

After working up an appetite, we headed to Tam Tam Pizza in Fairhaven, where every pizza is made with thoughtfully sourced ingredients inspired by the Slow Food movement. A perfect lunch stop before an afternoon of exploring!

Shopping in Fairhaven

Fairhaven might just be my favorite neighborhood in Bellingham. The historic brick buildings, independent shops, and slower pace make it endlessly walkable. A visit isn't complete without popping into Village Books, one of my favorite independent bookstores. We never seem to leave empty-handed. ;)

Dinner @ Skylark's Hidden Cafe

Dinner brought us to Skylark's, where we enjoyed hearty comfort food in good company. The relaxed atmosphere made it the perfect place to unwind after a busy day of exploring. I also paired my meal with one of the best mango mocktails I've ever had!!

Dessert @ Sirena Gelato

Naturally, dessert was non-negotiable. Sirena Gelato completely won me over with their Thai coconut gelato, which was creamy, refreshing, and easily one of my favorite sweet treats of the trip. If you're anything like me, save room after dinner - you won't regret it.

Morning in Blaine & the Semiahmoo Sandspit

Day two took us a little farther north to Blaine, where we spent the morning walking the incredible Semiahmoo Sandspit. During low tide, the sand stretches so far into the bay that it almost feels like you could wander all the way to Canada! The views were absolutely breathtaking and made for one of the most peaceful moments of the weekend.

Brunch @ Semiahmoo Resort

After our morning walk, we headed into Semiahmoo Resort for brunch. I ordered what might honestly be one of the best salmon eggs benedict I've ever had, and we lingered enjoying the beautiful waterfront views. It's the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and savor the morning.

Breakfast @ Mount Bakery Cafe

On day three, before beginning the drive home, we made one final stop at Mount Bakery Cafe for breakfast. It's easy to see why this spot has become a local favorite. Warm pastries, excellent entrees, and a cozy atmosphere made for the perfect send-off after such a wonderful weekend.

Bellingham continues to surprise me every time I visit. Between the beautiful coastline, incredible local food scene, and charming neighborhoods, it manages to feel both adventurous and incredibly relaxing all at once. We're already talking about what we'll do on our next trip back - and I have a feeling a nature walk by the water will be first on the list. :)
